FAQ

Can I work in Poland without PESEL/NIP?

No. Every legal job requires tax identification. Employers must have it for payroll reporting.

Which should I get first — PESEL or NIP?

If you'll be in Poland long-term: PESEL (via residence registration). If just working: NIP alone works initially.

Do I need PESEL if I have NIP?

Not strictly, but PESEL is universal and required for: bank accounts, contracts, healthcare. Get both if staying.

What if I'm from EU vs outside?

Same procedure. EU citizens have easier residence registration but follow the same tax ID process.

Can I get these numbers remotely?

PESEL: requires in-person residence registration at municipality office.

NIP: can apply online via e-ZUS if you have digital signature.

Do numbers expire?

No. Once issued, PESEL and NIP are permanent for that person/entity.
